Once again, we are returning to the 2021 IDP Candidates for Breakout series! This time, we are taking a venture through the Seattle Seahawks' former first-round pick Jordyn Brooks. With a recent departure, Brooks is in a very good position to become an instant contributor for the Seahawks. He is also in a prime position to make fantasy managers happy and join the list of 2021 IDP candidates for breakout!

Many fans were surprised to see the Seahawks take Jordyn Brooks with the twenty-seventh pick in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft. He had a pretty stellar final year at Texas Tech where he accumulated at least 20 tackles for loss. So maybe Seattle knew something we all didn't? You could say he had a slow start to his NFL career.

Early on, Brooks wasn't logging much time on the field, almost to the point of being irrelevant for IDP purposes. The Seahawks were taking their time with Jordyn and probably scaring fantasy managers around the globe who drafted him. You could hear the collective sigh of relief when Brooks started four of the final five games of the 2020 season.

He was traditionally the starting weakside linebacker when Seahawks used base packages, but Brooks started to look like a stronger player in those last few games. When the defense went into a nickel package, Brooks would come off the field and KJ Wright would be the weakside linebacker.

Getting vital time on the field, Brooks began to showcase his versatile abilities. He was finally able to show why he was a first-round pick. Brooks also received some of that lovely playoff experience against the Los Angeles Rams. Veteran KJ Wright seemed to be the only thing standing in the way of a possible "IDP candidate for breakout" type of season for Brooks.

Situation:

It almost seems signed, sealed, and delivered that the Seattle Seahawks will be saying goodbye to KJ Wright, the way this offseason is going. This gives the momentum to make Brooks that next most IDP profitable linebacker after the always IDP-relevant Bobby Wagner. This should make fantasy managers who drafted him very happy people.

Brooks should become an every-down player, depending on offensive personnel on the opposite side of the field. His value could be tremendous in current start-up drafts, and fantasy managers should be looking to acquire him in redraft. Brooks could quite easily be an LB2 with possible LB1 performances.

Wright is still currently an unsigned free agent. He will likely find a team before the season starts, with injuries becoming more frequent in training camp. Wagner will still be the top linebacker in Seattle, but in 2021, Brooks could begin to give Wagner a run for his money. Brooks has plenty of upside as a player.

With tons of talent and athleticism, Brooks will begin to make impact plays more often with more playing time. He is ready to step up and be that guy for the Seattle defense. Brooks is taking all the steps necessary to become a better player, including eating healthier and working at improving all aspects of his game. It definitely looks like he's not taking this possible promotion lightly.

Summary:

Seattle has made some recent additions to try to beef up their struggling defense. Last season, the Seahawks traded for Jamal Adams, a star safety many NFL fans know about. They acquired Carlos Dunlap and signed Kerry Hyder to beef up their defensive line, and I have Kerry Hyder pegged as a possible 2021 IDP breakout candidate.

Fellow 2020 draftee Darrell Taylor will likely be playing outside linebacker for the Seahawks this season, and their defense is getting a full offseason to get accustomed to playing together, which could bode well for the unit altogether. Brooks has a high probability to take on a larger role this season. With his talent and draft value, he could quickly become an impact player. Take a shot at him!
